Hardware-Software Integration
While my primary focus was the Industrial Design and Mechanical Engineering of the collar, Moggi was conceived as a holistic ecosystem. The physical device serves as the data hub, capturing high-precision behavioral metrics that are then visualized within the Moggi mobile app.

2. Tractive GPS — The Mass Market Leader
The Product: A boxy, square device that clipped onto existing collars.
The Weakness: In 2016, these units were massive for a cat’s neck, interfering with eating and grooming. They lacked integrated safety buckles, posing a strangulation risk.
Moggi’s Edge: I integrated a custom Magnetic Safety Break-away buckle. This solved the "life-or-death" issue of cats getting snagged on branches—a safety feature Tractive ignored at the time.
3. Tabcat
The Product: Ultra-light RF (radio frequency) tags.
The Weakness: No GPS and no smartphone map. Owners had to walk around with a handheld "beep" remote, which was ineffective for long-distance tracking.
Moggi’s Edge: Moggi combined the miniature form factor of Tabcat with the full power of GPS, giving owners peace of mind without the technical limitations.
1. Pod (Pod 1 / Pod 2)
The Product: A cylindrical tracker, roughly the size of a wine cork.
The Weakness: It relied on flimsy rubber straps for collar attachment, which were prone to snapping and looked unpolished. The battery replacement felt "plasticky" and fragile.
Moggi’s Edge: My Bayonet Locking Mechanism replaced unreliable rubber with a high-precision, camera-lens style connection, offering a much more durable and premium user experience.
To design Moggie, I analyzed the top players of 2016. The market was saturated with "dog-first" devices, leaving a significant gap for a cat-specific, premium solution.
The main Competitors

Moggie Design: Solving for the Cat’s Anatomy
My goal was to design a device specifically for a cat’s unique lifestyle: climbing, jumping, and squeezing into tight spaces.
Mechanical Innovation
Safety Break-away System: An integrated magnetic buckle designed to release under pressure, preventing feline strangulation
Bayonet Mounting Mechanism:
Inspired by professional camera lenses, the "twist-and-lock" bayonet allows owners to effortlessly detach the device for charging without removing the collar, minimizing pet stress.
Custom Magnetic Dock:
Once detached via the bayonet mount, the tracker simply drops into the dock, making the daily routine effortless for the owner.
Ergonomic Curvature
A sleek, rounded form factor that follows the natural contours of a cat’s neck, eliminating the bulk and discomfort of traditional "box-shaped" trackers.

Know when something changes - before it becomes a problem.
Moggie helps you spot subtle changes in your cat’s activity, behavior and routine, so you can act early and feel confident they’re truly okay.
