User Insights

Vokabio is a vocabulary learning app that helps users learn new words through flashcards, enhanced with AI-generated decks and a scroll-based learning mode.
The app allows users to quickly create personalized word decks with AI and learn vocabulary in a familiar, low-effort way — by scrolling, similar to social media — making short, frequent learning sessions easy to integrate into daily life.

Problem

1

Create a simple and user-friendly vocabulary app focused on clarity and ease of use.

2

Allow users to quickly create their own flashcard decks or generate topic-based decks using AI.

3

Offer two learning modes:

Focus Mode for classic flashcard learning.

Scroll Mode, where users learn by scrolling through AI-generated content, similar to social media, with words shown in dialogues, texts, or short contextual formats.

This analysis compares Vokabio with global and local leaders in the flashcard space: DuoCards, Anki Pro, and Quizlet. While legacy apps focus on pure repetition, your app innovates by integrating learning into daily digital habits.

I have very little time each day to learn new words and need a quick way to review vocabulary.

It’s hard to remember words without context – I often forget them.

I want to learn my own words and topics, not just pre-made cards.

Sometimes learning words one by one gets boring; I like it better when I see them in different sentences or situations.

It would be great if I could set my own learning goals.

“Sometimes I just want to look through words and see how they appear in different situations—it keeps it interesting.”

“I prefer learning that fits naturally into my day, without feeling like a big task.”

5 user interviews were conducted with people currently learning a new language.

The goal was to gain a better understanding of their learning habits, needs, and everyday challenges.

The interviews showed that many learners face similar difficulties, especially regarding:

Time management

Motivation

Long-term retention of new words

Onboarding

User can generate a vocabulary deck on any topic

Users can also browse and find suitable decks in the Library section.

User Impact

Short and clear onboarding helps users start learning quickly without feeling overwhelmed.

Personalized deck recommendations after onboarding ensure that content matches the user’s level, goals, and interests.

The ability to create custom decks or generate decks with AI gives users full control over what they want to learn.

Focus Mode supports efficient and structured learning with classic flashcards.

Scroll Mode makes learning more engaging by showing words in different contexts, helping users retain vocabulary more naturally.

Together, these features reduce friction, increase motivation, and make vocabulary learning easier to maintain in everyday life.

Learning Words with Flashcards

Users have little time in their daily lives to actively learn new vocabulary.

1

Learning words without context makes them hard to remember.

2

Many vocabulary apps feel overloaded with features, animations, or effects, which can be distracting and stressful.

3

There is often little personalization, and users cannot easily add their own words.

Overview

Create a custom deck by adding their own words.

Onboarding flow introduces the app’s core features and then asks users a few key questions about their language, level, goals, and interests. This information is used to personalize the learning experience and tailor the vocabulary content from the very first session

Learning Modes

Fokus Mode

The app offers two learning modes to support different study preferences.
In Focus Mode, users learn words using classic flashcards. After completing a session, they can see clear statistics showing how many words they have studied and reviewed.

Scroll Mode

In Scroll Mode, users learn by scrolling through content where words appear in different contexts, such as short texts or dialogues, video or tests. They can filter the content (for example, only dialogues or only texts), mark words as learned during the session, and view learning statistics at the end as well.
